Tips To Have Your Tractor Ready for Snow

Winter can be a rough time and one of the many times of the year we need our tractors. While Kubota tractors are durable and relatively weather proof, there are some things you can do to maximize the performance of your tractor in the winter months.  Here are 5 quick maintenance tips that you can perform on your Kubota tractor in the fall to get it ready for winter.

  1. Check your tire Pressure: This is something that you’re going to want to check often during the winter months. If tire pressure gets low due to cold temperature, the tire can slip off the bead and cause a real problem for you. Since this seems to happen when you need to use the tractor it’s better to check those things in advance.

  2. Treat your fuel: In very cold temperatures diesel fuel can gel. There are a number of fuel additives out there than prevent this. We prefer Winter Power and that is what we use in all of our tractors.

  3. Check your battery: There is nothing worse than going to start your Kubota to clear out some snow than that clicking sound of a dead battery. Make sure your battery is in good health now before it gets cold.

  4. Make sure your Air Filter is clean:  If you had a dry fall like we did, you want to double check your air filter. You don’t want your tractor struggling to breathe and loosing power when you need it most.

  5. Replace your Fuel Filter: Fuel filters can collect water over time. It’s a good idea to start with a fresh fuel filter to remove that water before the weather gets cold enough to freeze it.

  6. Check your anti freeze: It’s important to make sure that your antifreeze is good down to -10°F. Particularly with older tractors, if your antifreeze freezes, it can blow up your radiator which can not only be both inconvenient and expensive.

At the end of the day we won’t be able to predict the weather. For most of us though we know that we’re going to want to use our tractors.
