Taking the Pain out of Parts Purchasing

December 13, 2013

Have your numbers:

When it comes to looking up replacement parts, having the correct reference is key. Having these numbers can decrease your wait time by half simply because we don’t have to guesstimate and we can find the exact part quickly. Also, be sure to keep in mind that if you are looking for a part on the machine itself, we need machine numbers, not necessarily engine numbers. If you need a piece for the engine we also need the engine numbers.

Briggs and Stratton:

  • Model
  • Type

These can be found on the flywheel housing or the valve cover on your engine.

Bring in small parts

When you’re looking for a small part either on a small machine like a chainsaw or for a carburetor bring the machine or part in. We’ll know where to look for the right numbers to get you on your way quickly.

This can be especially true if you’ve got a piece of equipment that we don’t carry. For example we get a lot of people coming in trying to match belts for products we don’t carry. While we may not have the manufacturer’s belt, there is still a good chance that we can match the belt with a kevlar alternative as long as we have the right specs. By far the best way for us to match them up is to have the belts in front of us!

When it comes to 2-Cycle carburetors, bringing the whole carburetor is the best bet. As a carburetor gets warn and dirty the numbers can be hard to see. We know where to look and have the ability to clean them off. So make sure to bring the whole carb in if you’re after a rebuild kit.

Well there you have it, a few tips to help you get in and get out quickly with the right parts to finish the job.
